When your daughter is over the age of 13.5, she is eligible for the program, and at every stage of the Award she will learn a skill, participate in voluntary service and physical recreation. Participants also learn life skills on adventurous journeys as a team that involve camping, hiking and kayaking in South Australia and beyond.

She is also able to participate in international opportunities including Exchanges and Study Tours. Other local and global opportunities include enriching service and cultural immersion programs visiting the APY Lands, Tiwi Islands and South-East Asia.

Students can build on these skills through lunch time clubs and workshops, collaborative community projects, art exhibitions, dance groups and a bi-annual Year 6-12 Production. In our purpose-built Drama Theatre and Studio, students are also able to learn the skills of backstage work, sound and lighting design. Musical talents are developed through individual tuition or by joining a performance group such as the orchestra, various choirs, or smaller ensembles including flute, strings, percussion and drums. There is also a stage band, jazz vocal group and rock bands as well as an Indonesian gamelan orchestra.

From the early years, our students are encouraged to challenge the gender narrative around careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths through learning opportunities in the Careers Centre, Digital Technologies and Sciences as well as the Minecraft and STEM club, Tournament of Minds and Oliphant Science Awards. Our students recognise the importance of continuing their learning in these areas, with a significant proportion studying Maths and Sciences through to Year 12. Many of our graduates go on to pursue careers in these fields and are involved in our programs to increase the visibility of these pathways for our students.

Well done, Aanya - we love seeing our students' creativity recognised like this!

- [Rostrum Voice of Youth National Final](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/rostrum-voice-of-youth-national-final/): Year 7 student, Senudi, recently headed to Sydney to compete in the Rostrum Voice of Youth National Final as the junior representative for SA/NT.  Senudi competed against fellow semi-finalists from each state, first presenting her rousing prepared speech on the topic of Bridging the Gap before a short notice speech based on the prompt Who do you Trust, where she spoke about the value of learning to trust yourself and your own voice. Rostrum also treated the finalists to a range of inspiring activities throughout the weekend, including a welcoming reception at Parliament House hosted by the Hon. Benjamin Franklin, President of the NSW Legislative Council.

Seeing the faces of primary students as they flooded into the building on Day 1 was so rewarding for everyone who has worked tirelessly over the last couple of years to bring this project together. The bright and spacious classrooms, thoughtfully designed breakout spaces and sensory rooms and the stunning range of furnishings to suit all learners are already making an impact. The rooftop terrace has been embraced by students of all ages. We look forward to the official opening in Week 4, where we will acknowledge the many people who brought the project together, on time and on budget.

The current Podcasting Leaders Myf Hardy and Lucy Gill from Year 11 and two up and coming podcasters Arabelle Bhar and Charlize Dang from Year 9 had a crash course in podcasting where they had the chance to build their own podcasts with students from other CESA schools. “It was an amazing day, we began by participating in ice breaker activities, getting to meet a variety of students from different catholic schools around South Australia.” -Charlize Dang. As the day developed these narrative style podcasts came together with four unique stories being produced. “This was an experience I will cherish and never forget as it was insightful, fun, helped me grow and continue with podcasting at school through the abundance of amazing opportunities our school provides including the Arch D Radio and Podcasting course.” – Arabelle Bahr!”

- [From the Faith and Mission Coordinator](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/from-the-faith-and-mission-coordinator-4/): Carlo Acutis, born in London in 1991 and raised in Italy, enjoyed many things in common with his peers – football, playing video games, spending time with friends. He was also a young person of deep faith – using his own money to buy sleeping bags for homeless people, defending classmates who were bullied, and using his skills in technology for evangelisation. He wrote “We don’t need superpowers to be saints, we just need to love”, emphasising, as we have been reflecting on this year, the importance of being animated by love.

- [From the Careers Department](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/from-the-careers-department-50/): Life in the Uni Lane 2026, hosted by the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement at Flinders University, provided an exciting on campus experience designed to assist students with future study and career pathways. Participants tried their hand at code breaking and game design and learnt about midwifery and ecological science through the exploration of seaweed, fire and bush plants. The day was informative and fun, allowing students to investigate the Flinders Campus at Bedford Park and to understand more about potential post school pathway options. We thank our hosts for the warm welcome and for providing this wonderful opportunity for our students.

- [From the Principal – Issue #11](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/from-the-principal-issue-11/): Catherine McAuley called us to be “shining lamps, giving light to all around us”. Year 7 student, Senudi, was certainly shining brightly last Saturday night when she won the Grand Final of the Junior Section of the Rostrum Voice of Youth public speaking competition. Ably coached and supported by Ms Lucy Combe and Ms Rachel Morant, Senudi spoke passionately for six minutes on the topic “Bridging the Gap”. Her simple but eloquent reflection on the steps we might take to address First Nations injustice in Australia was incredibly powerful. She then delivered a three-minute speech on the short-notice topic, “It’s Not Fair”. Senudi’s family and the whole audience were blown away by her talent and authenticity. She will now travel to Sydney for the National Final. Congratulations, Senudi!

Year 7/8 Girls Claim Division 2 Basketball Title](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/state-champions-year-7-8-girls-claim-division-2-basketball-title/): Congratulations to our Year 7/8 Knockout Basketball team for taking out the Division 2 Statewide Basketball Championships on Wednesday! It was a fantastic team effort going the whole day undefeated in close games, where every single player took a turn to step up and make a contribution when it counted. It seemed that the girls just continued to improve as the day progressed, with a final score of 42 - 37 in a gritty Grand Final against Morialta. Thankyou to our superstar coach, Mr Dickson and team manager Ms Casserly-Lund for their ongoing support over the year, and our wonderful families who came out to support on the day!

This year's dramatisation of Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller was enthusiastically enacted by Ms Griffith's class of performers. Our primary classes loved sharing the story and joining in the fun of the soccer game right up until the nail-biting finish! A big thank you to our talented and courageous actors!

- [Picture Perfect Moments](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/picture-perfect-moments/): The St Aloysius College Year 8/9 Social at the Carrington Function Centre was a fantastic evening filled with fun, music, and dancing. Students enjoyed the opportunity to socialise and dance the night away alongside students from Rostrevor College, Christian Brothers College, and Blackfriars Priory School. It was wonderful to see students engaging positively, building connections, and creating lasting memories!
- [Finding Their Voice](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/32667/): Rostrum Voice of Youth is a national public speaking competition for students in Years 7-12 which provides an excellent opportunity for entrants to gain experience and confidence in expressing their views and communicating a message.  Eight students from SAC competed in the first heat of the competition alongside hundreds of other students from across SA.  Each competitor had to present a pre-prepared speech as well as a quick preparation round where students had only 15 minutes to prepare a three-minute speech on an unknown topic.  Our students demonstrated Mercy Values throughout the day, both in their conduct and the content of their speeches.  Aamina (10LS) and Senudi (7AP) were both then invited to compete at the Semi-Finals two weeks later.  Good luck to Senudi who will now be competing in the State Final to be held at the House of Assembly, Parliament House on Saturday 27 June.  Congratulations to all our incredible speakers.

It is important that we also recognise the times our choices are not loving. In the Catholic tradition the Sacrament of Reconciliation provides us with an opportunity to consider these times and turn to our forgiving and loving God, with repentance and a desire to restore the relationships hurt by our actions.

- [Poetry in Action Performance: The Power of Poetry](https://www.sac.sa.edu.au/news/poetry-in-action-performance-the-power-of-poetrynewsletter/): Recently, our Year 8 students enjoyed a performance from spoken word poetry group Poetry In Action, called ‘The Power of Poetry’. The three performers enthusiastically and hilariously discussed, debated and brought to life a range of classic and contemporary poems. The poems included represented many different times, places and styles, from a sonnet by Elizabeth Robert Browning, to Palestinian Poet Mahmoud Darwish’s The Prison Cell, to snippets from Banjo Patterson and Eminem.
