To all responsible users of social media: If you are on Instagram and would like to see more snapshots of SAC in action, feel free to follow our new official SAC Instagram page!
This has been a fortnight full of special moments right across the school, from our final farewell to the Year 12 Class of 2025 to our first welcome to the new students joining us in 2026. It is important that we recognise moments of transition and celebrate the gifts that every student and their family bring to the College, and this fortnight has included many such moments.
The Year 12 Graduation was held at Adelaide Oval this week, a venue that was able to cater for the size of our group in a convenient, central location. It was a joy to see the students celebrating their friendships and achievements, knowing that their connection to SAC will remain strong through the Old Scholars Association. I’m pleased to report that the DJ remembered to play Dancing Queen (the highlight of every Graduation Dinner for me!). The genuine respect and strong relationships between students, staff and families was clearly evident and is central to creating an environment where every student thrives. We now await the SACE results distribution mid-December, and we know that each of these young people will make the world a little less cold and more just with their Mercy spirit.
Congratulations to the Class of 2025 on your Graduation Dinner!
This same spirit was alive and well at the Primary Christmas Assembly, hosted by the Year 2 and Year 4 students. With our very own pageant consisting of floats created by the Year 2 students, combined with a range of Christmas music brought together by the Music team, the assembly was a riot of joyous colour and energy. Thanks to the many families who made space on a busy Monday morning to attend. This was just a taster for all the fun that’s around the corner at SAC Spectacular next week.
Primary Christmas Assembly - A beautiful celebration of joy
Mercy hospitality & New beginnings
The last fortnight has also seen us welcome almost 150 new students to orientation sessions at the College in preparation for the 2026 school year. At any age, Mercy hospitality is key to making new students quickly feel a sense of belonging at SAC. The breadth of locations that enrolling students come from is indicative of our enrolment diversity and it is always heartwarming to see how quickly young people form friendships. We hope that these sessions have provided reassurance and planted seeds of excitement for the learning opportunities that await them in 2026 and beyond.
The Arch D Podcasting Awards were held at Sacred Heart College on Sunday, and SAC was well represented by Digital Technologies Coordinator, Mr Lochlann Dwyer, and students from Years 9 and 10 who participated in podcasting initiatives during the year. Special congratulations to Lucy Gill, who was names Senior Podcaster of the Year across the system, and to Myf Hardy who as Podcasting Captain has continued to nurture a passion for podcasting at SAC.

Outstanding Leadership Recognised Across Year 10 and 11
Three awards were presented recently to outstanding leaders in Year 11. Liliana and Yenuli were presented with the Shining Lamp Award (from Mercy Education) and the Student Citizenship Award (from the Order of Australia Association) at the final Year 11 liturgy in the Chapel. These two outstanding leaders will be our College Captains for 2026, so it was no surprise that their leadership has been recognised beyond the school. In addition, Mariya was recognised with the Muriel Matters Award for her commitment to justice and advocacy initiatives throughout the course of her education. Year 10 students Lucy and Angelique were also recognised for their leadership through the ADF Leadership and Teamwork and Future Innovator Awards respectively. The College in good hands with such strong student leadership in 2026.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at SAC Spectacular next week.

Exploring the Magic of Changing Matter
In Year 3 Science, students explored the fascinating concept of changing matter through hands-on experiments in the lab. They investigated how materials changed state, mixed, and reacted, developing an understanding of reversible and irreversible changes.
One engaging activity involved making slime, where students combined everyday substances to observe how their properties transformed when mixed. This practical experience encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration, while reinforcing key curriculum outcomes such as predicting results, recording observations, and explaining changes using scientific language.
A wonderful glimpse into the bright future of our young scientists!

Honouring the 2/43rd Battalion: A Moment of Reflection
As we commemorated on Tuesday 11 November, we paused to reflected on the deep and enduring connection between St Aloysius College and the family and friends of the 2/43rd Battalion.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn. At the going
down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.
Lest we forget
year 11 Modern History students reflected:
"Attending the Remembrance Day Service was a really meaningful experience that allowed myself and my peers to honour those who served and passed during the war. During the minute of silence, we were able to reflect on the bravery and commitment of soldiers who have fought in wars and conflicts, allowing us to develop a deep connection towards their lives. The service reminded us of the importance of gratitude and continuing to remember their sacrifices in our lives today." Imogen
"My experience at the remembrance day ceremony was insightful. Being able to speak to Mr Kelly and observe the crosses opened my eyes to the trauma that these soldiers went through. Having the opportunity to lay the wreath was an honour and I appreciated the opportunity to attend and observe the ceremony." Amy

Hands-on with making a real difference!
Last week was National Recycling Week, and our Year 9 RE students got hands-on with making a real difference! Ms Pelekani’s class joined Ms Eustace and four Year 11 SRC members to assemble Junior Buddy Solar Torches. These torches will be sent overseas to students living in disaster-affected areas or facing energy poverty. The money to purchase these torches was raised in large part from the 10c deposit container scheme at the College.
A big thank you to all our students for helping brighten someone’s future!

Wrapping Up Christmas Cheer!
Teams of wonderful students each Wednesday are volunteering their time to gift wrap some of the 2,500 hampers that the Day Centre's staff and volunteers will distribute to people in need during Christmas – below are some photos of today’s legendary team in action!
Throughout the year, many of our own students also painted this wrapping paper during their Wednesday sessions at the Day Centre.
Please help us to fill the hampers by encouraging your students to read the ‘wish list’ on the Vivi screens and in the notices, and place kind donations in the tubs in the front foyer. 💜

Celebrating the Third Edition of Muse Magazine
Muse Magazine is a student-led anthology published biennially. Throughout the year, dedicated and enthusiastic writers ranging from Years 7 to 11 meet each week, to encourage submissions, edit entries and enjoy a short writing challenge at the end of each meeting. Spring 2025 marks the third edition of the magazine, brought to fruition under the leadership of Amy (11FT) and Olivia (11MB). As the name suggests, each edition of the magazine is dedicated to a Muse, someone who has inspired and encouraged the student authors. The third edition was dedicated to our Library staff, especially Ms Ali Ripberger, who have supported and encouraged the writing group – from providing space in the Library for meetings and workshops, to sharing a love of reading and the power of words. The launch, attended by the editorial group and the students whose written and artistic work appeared in the magazine, was a celebration of creativity, talent and many months of tireless proofreading! Congratulations to the students whose writing and art appeared in print and those whose work in the background brought this third edition to Muse Magazine to life.

Honouring Alicia’s Beautiful New Picture Book
Our SAC community is super proud of our Maintenance team member, Alicia, who recently published a picture book for young students. Using her own experience of letting go of a beloved pet, Alicia has written an encouraging story of hope and comfort in times of grief. Students gathered to celebrate Alicia's achievement and listen to her words of advice for aspiring writers. Congratulations, Alicia!

Year 9s Inspired by AFLW Captain’s Journey
In Week 4, the Year 9s had the pleasure of listening to AFLW Port Adelaide Captain Justine Mules-Robinson. She discussed the importance of physical activity in her life and the benefits. She also discussed her career and what it has been like on the journey of playing a sport that has been male dominated. What a fantastic experience for our Year 9s to hear from such a professional athlete.

Sprinting to Success at the SACPSSA Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival
On Friday 31st October, a group of approximately 20 Year 3–6 students represented our school at the annual SACPSSA Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival, held at the SA Athletics Stadium. Competing in Section 2, the girls displayed outstanding sportsmanship and school pride. Throughout the day, many students achieved excellent results across both track and field events, earning numerous ribbons and personal bests. A highlight of the carnival was our Year 4 team, who proudly received the award for the highest points in their age group. Overall, our school finished 4th which is an impressive achievement. Congratulations to all the girls on a fantastic effort!

Congratulations to Year 6 student, Lucie – Double State Champion!
We are thrilled to celebrate Lucie, from 6SD, who achieved an incredible feat at the State Champion Fencing Competition on Sunday 9 November. Lucie took out first place in not one, but two categories, becoming the 2025 State Champion in both the Under 13 Girls Foil and the Under 11 Girls Foil.
Lucie’s dedication, skill, and sportsmanship were on full display, and we are so proud to see her hard work recognised at this level. Well done, Lucie! A fantastic achievement and an inspiring example for all our SAC students!

The Year 10 French Concours de Cuisine was a sweet success!
Students showcased their culinary flair by choosing a French or Francophone dessert that represented a specific region and bringing it to life in a friendly bake-off. From flaky pastries to decadent cakes and delicate tarts, the creativity and skill on display were impressive. The competition was fierce, with each dessert reflecting both careful research and individual style. Our expert judges had their work cut out for them, carefully tasting and evaluating each creation before selecting the standout dishes. It was a delightful celebration of culture, technique, and sweet treats, leaving everyone inspired, and slightly tempted!

Year 10 Drama Night - A Night of Powerful Stories
In what can only be described as an exciting and compelling night of theatre, the Year 10 Drama Night, a celebration of documentary style plays, was held last week and it was a great success. The student written plays explored a number of interesting and complex topics such the 9-11 tragedy; the perils of online dating; the tragic events of Pompeii; Growing up in two cultures and influx of A.I. into our world. The students performed marvelously on the night in front of a very supportive audience of family and friends. Congratulations to the talented Year 10 Drama students !
