ADELAIDE FESTIVAL EXCURSION – LOVE STORIES
Unapologetically sentimental, uncynically joyful, and brimming with wholeheartedness, Love Stories delivered exactly what its title promises, a play full of love, sadness and emotion. Adapted from Trent Dalton’s 2021 book Love Stories was an uplifting celebration of love in all its forms. From amazing acting, movement and live cameras filming the performers, audience and even backstage, Love Stories was a production that both impressed and inspired our SAC students. After what was a perfect show its was ana amazing treat to meet the performers afterwards (see photos).

STUDENTS REFLECTED:
“Love Stories was such a beautiful and heartfelt play. It took all these real stories about love—some heartbreaking, some hilarious, and some just pure joy—and wove them together in such a moving way. The way the actors brought Trent Dalton’s words to life made it feel so personal, like you were sitting down with a friend sharing their most cherished memories. It wasn’t just about romance; it was about every kind of love—family, friendship, even fleeting connections with strangers. Some moments had the whole audience laughing, and others were genuinely tear-jerking. It just felt so real and raw, and it really stuck with me afterward.” Alexa (Year 12)
“It was so touching, funny and it made me cry several times. I loved it and hated it at the same time. It just touched me in the way that nothing I’ve seen ever has.” Annabelle (Year 11)
“I thought Love Stories was really inspiring, especially with the technical aspects of the camera being on stage and filming as a live projection- rather than just being something pre-recorded. I found that inspiring and how the dancers were enacting the story of the writer and his wife while they were acting out their story. There were also very strong emotions in the play that really hit hard for me but they did it in a way that was really open showing there’s bad sides to love but also good sides to love.” Sophie (Year 11)
“The play moves around with the characters made it feel like in real life but more lively and the lighting really set the mood for the piece.” Nadia (Year 12)
