WEAR IT YOUR WAY, PURPLE FOR EVERY SEASON
St Aloysius College will introduce a transeasonal uniform next year, designed to reflect the needs of today’s learners. It has been nearly two decades since our last uniform update and much has changed in that time. This new design represents a bold step forward in our commitment to student comfort, inclusivity, and contemporary learning, while staying true to the values and identity of our College.
Reception to Year 2 students will wear their PE uniform year-round, providing comfort for our youngest learners while supporting active play and ease of movement throughout the school day.
Students in Years 3–12 will transition to a new transeasonal wardrobe under the theme “Wear it your way – purple for every season.” Moving away from traditional summer and winter options, this flexible collection allows students to dress for the day based on the weather, their learning activities, and personal comfort, while maintaining a consistent and cohesive College identity.
This change is the result of extensive consultation with students, families, and staff. As we celebrate 145 years since St Aloysius College was founded by the Sisters of Mercy, we have honoured our rich Mercy heritage and our iconic colour, purple, while embracing modern fabrics, inclusive designs, and practical features that meet the needs of today’s learners.
The new uniform was officially launched to our students and staff on 7 November, with items available for purchase from early January 2026.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is the school uniform changing?
It has been nearly two decades since our last uniform update, and the needs of students and families have evolved significantly in that time. The new design prioritises comfort, practicality, and inclusivity, while continuing to honour the College’s heritage and identity.
Our goal has been to respect the rich history of St Aloysius College while introducing a modern, durable, and fit-for-purpose wardrobe. The new uniform offers versatility through transeasonal pieces, giving families flexibility and choice, without compromising on quality or the cohesive look that represents our community.
What’s different about the new uniform?
The new St Aloysius College uniform moves away from separate summer and winter options and introduces a transeasonal wardrobe. Designed in partnership with Perm-a-Pleat, it features modern fabrics, inclusive cuts, and a flexible approach that allows students to dress comfortably while maintaining a polished College identity.
What does “Wear it your way – purple for every season” mean?
“Wear it your way – purple for every season” means students can mix and match from a range of transeasonal uniform pieces designed for year-round wear. This flexible approach allows students to choose what feels comfortable and practical for the day, while maintaining a cohesive College look. It eliminates the need for separate summer and winter uniforms, offering inclusivity and choice.
Shoes and socks
Students must wear enclosed black leather school shoes, either plain lace-up or T-bar styles are acceptable. Shoes must be worn with grey regulation College crew socks, knee-high socks, or grey stockings.
What was the consultation process?
All students, parents, and staff at St Aloysius College were invited to share their feedback through an online survey, with regular updates provided at parent forums and also communication via the College newsletter. Because the uniform is something students wear every day, their voices were central to the design process. This collaborative approach ensured the final uniform reflects student needs and preferences, creating a wardrobe that allows them to feel comfortable, confident, and proud to represent the spirit and identity of St Aloysius College.
Who created the new uniform?
We enlisted the expertise of our new supplier, Perm-a-Pleat, to collaborate on the redesign of the St Aloysius College uniform. Beginning in 2023, and with the formation of the Uniform Committee in 2024, this process brought together staff, leadership, and parent representatives working closely with Deputy Principal, Jacqui McIlroy. Guided by student voice and community feedback, the team developed a transeasonal wardrobe that balances tradition with modern needs. Every stage, from concept to final design, was shaped by those who wear and value the uniform most, ensuring the result reflects comfort, inclusivity, and a strong sense of College identity.
Who is our new uniform supplier?
Perm-a-Pleat is one of Australia’s leading school uniform specialists, proudly Australian-owned with an office in South Australia to support local schools. The company is committed to ethical and sustainable manufacturing, operating under strict compliance with modern slavery legislation and responsible sourcing standards. With decades of experience, Perm-a-Pleat combines innovation with durability to create high-quality garments that are practical, stylish, and built to last. Were the uniform colours and designs worn by other neighbouring schools considered?
Yes. During the design process, we carefully considered the colours and styles of neighbouring schools to ensure St Aloysius College maintains a distinctive identity. We return to our iconic purple, a colour deeply connected to our Mercy heritage and proudly worn by students for generations. This decision reflects our commitment to honouring 145 years of tradition while introducing a modern, versatile uniform that meets the needs of today’s learners.

Is there a transition period?
Yes. The three-year transition period will begin at the commencement of Term 1, 2026, and will conclude at the end of Term 4, 2028. The current seasonal uniforms will be phased out during this time as current stock deplete.
What will Reception to Year 2 students wear?
Students in Reception to Year 2 will wear their PE uniform every day, all year round. This simplifies daily routines and ensures comfort and ease of movement. However, students can continue wearing the outgoing uniform, if they choose to do so.
Will students still be able to wear and buy the outgoing school uniform items?
Yes. There will be a three-year transition period during which students may continue to wear the current uniform. For families who choose this option, the SAC Uniform Shop will continue to sell the current uniform until stock is depleted. No new stock of the seasonal uniform will be ordered.
Are students allowed to wear outgoing uniform items with pieces of the new uniform?
No. Students must either wear the outgoing uniform or the new uniform, not a mix of both, on any given day.
The new uniform seems to have a lot of items. Does a student need them all?
No. A student does not need to have all the items in the new transeasonal uniform. The uniform is designed to offer choice for students and their families. Compulsory items include the blazer, backpack, hat, socks and black school shoes.
The all-seasons wardrobe aims to encourage students to select items that they find comfortable and that reflect their individual style, providing flexibility to wear a uniform that suits their daily learning needs.
What happens to old uniforms?
SAC is committed to sustainability and old uniforms are being repurposed to make teddy bears by the Justice and Mercy group via the Op Shop. These bears will be used as gifts for visiting students. This initiative reflects the College’s values of compassion, creativity and environmental responsibility.
Outgoing St Aloysius College uniform items can be donated to disadvantaged communities overseas via Container of Hope who collect and distribute excess and obsolete uniforms to countries in need. Families wishing to donate their outgoing uniforms to Container of Hope are invited to drop their uniforms in the designated bins located in the Jordan foyer. All items must be washed, clean and in good condition.
Any outgoing uniform items which do not contain a College logo, including the shirt, trousers and shorts can otherwise be donated to your nearest Op Shop.
Will there be a new PE/Sports Uniform?
No. The St Aloysius College PE uniform will remain the same, as it was updated in 2018.
As part of the new uniform launch, students from Reception to Year 2 will have the option to wear the PE uniform every day.
We have also introduced a new long-sleeve polo for added warmth and to support cultural inclusion. As f next year, this new item will replace the long-sleeve tops currently worn under the short-sleeve polo.
Did the College consider the cost impact on families?
Yes. Keeping costs manageable for families was a key priority throughout the uniform review. We understand the financial commitment involved in purchasing school uniforms, so we have taken a thoughtful approach by introducing a generous three-year transition period and carefully setting prices for each item.
While the new wardrobe offers greater flexibility and choice, the transeasonal design means families no longer need to purchase separate summer and winter uniforms. This reduces the number of items required across a student’s schooling journey.
